Even though she wasn't able to play two years ago, Caitlin Hollifield was around the last time Western Carolina's women got on a seriously good run. NCAA transfer rules confined Hollifield to the bench her first semester after arriving in Cullowhee from Alabama, but she remembers the vibe the Catamounts had while winning 10 straight games on their way to the NCAA tournament in the spring of 2009.
Though this year's Cats are a long way from that level of success, Hollifield said they're starting to find their way. WCU (5-10) has won two straight to move to .500 (3-3) in the Southern Conference and will play Friday at Georgia Southern with a shot at its first three-game winning streak under second-year coach Karen Middleton.
