Baseball - Preseason All-Conference


College Sports Madness released their 2016 Southern Conference Preseason All-Conference Teams today. The Catamounts were represented by three players.  Matt Smith was selected first team, Danny Bermudez & Kramer Ferrell were selected second team.




Matt Smith is a junior from Fredericktown, Ohio. In 2015, he was one of four Catamounts to start all 51 games on the season, An outfielder by trade, was relegated to the designated hitter role due to a throwing arm injury, he made 33 starts at DH and 18 in center field. Finished second on the team among the regulars with .332 batting average including a .379 mark against left-handed pitching, Named first team All-State by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA). Was named second team All-Southern Conference as a designated hitter by the SoCon Sports Media Association.





Danny Bermudez is a senior from Cumming Georgia. In 2015, he started in all 48 games in which he played, 38 of his starts came behind the plate. He ranked third on the team with a .317 batting average, second on the team with 10 multiple RBI games and was tied for third with 19 multi-hit games,. Named to the second team All-Southern Conference squad by the coaches at catcher, and named second team All-State by the North Carolina Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA), In summer league, won a New England Baseball League Championship, catching for the Vermont Mountaineers.




Kramer Ferrell is a senior from Ellensburg, Washington. In 2015, he is one of four Catamounts to start all 51 games on the season including 47 in right field and four in centerfield. Hit .295 with 57 hits including 10 doubles, a triple and six home runs coming in 193 at bats. Finished with 32 RBI, and tied for third with 19 multiple-hit games and had five multi-RBI outings.
