Looking at Game 11, Furman

Who: Furman Paladins

When: Saturday, November 16th

Where: Bob Waters Field at E.J. Whitmire Stadium - Cullowhee, NC

Series history: WCU trails 10-27-2 in the series with the Paladins, losing the last 7 straight games. Last season's loss to Furman was by a final score of 24-45.

Their conference: Southern Conference (SoCon)

Their coach: Bruce Fowler - Fowler enters his third season as head coach of the Paladins, and is 9-13 in his two seasons in Greenville.

Offense: Multiple

Defense: Multiple

Lettermen Returning / Lost: 33  /  21

Offensive starters Returning/Lost: 8  /  3

Defensive starters Returning/Lost:  5  / 6

2012 Stats:
Points per game: 24.7
Rushing Yardage: 1843 - Avg. per game: 167.5
Passing Yardage: 2210 - Avg. per game: 200.9
Total Yardage Per Game: 368.5

Their 2012 Record:  3-8 (2-6 SoCon).  The Paladins won games over Presbyterian, Western Carolina, and Elon

Weakness:  Defense, with only five starters returning, and a lack of depth in defense could keep the Paladins hopes for an improved season in check.  The defensive line returns only one starter from 2012, senior Shawn Boone.  Furman's linbacking corps was also hit hard by graduation and has the Paladins looking to fill all three linebacking positions this year.  The lone bright spot on defense seems to be the secondary, where three regulars are back.
