Saturday's SoCon Football Round-up (10-17-15)




Week number seven of football is now complete, and there was some surprises, so here's how Saturday's games played out in the SoCon.

With almost a full conference slate (only Mercer played out of conference), the weekend games are sure to shake up the power rankings this week. First place Chattanooga, pulled out a win over last place VMI, and battle between the Bulldogs resulted in a surprise for some.



Chattanooga at VMI
On the strength of four field goals by the Moc;s Henrique Ribeiro, Chattanooga held on for a six point victory over last place, VMI. VMI's Al Cobb threw for three touchdown passes, and ran for a score to lead the Keydets.
Purple & Gold's pick was " Mocs win, 49-14"

Western Carolina at Wofford
Western's Troy Mitchell completed 21 of 27 passes for 203 yards and two touchdowns and added 42 more yards on the ground to lead Western Carolina past Wofford 24-17. This was the Cats first win in Gibbs Stadium, and their first win in Spartanbutg since 1981.
Purple & Gold's pick was " the Cats finally come up with that win, 28-21"

The Citadel at Samford
The Citadel's Isiaha Smith ran for three touchdowns, and Dominique Allen added a touchdown and 166 rushing yards to lead The Citadel to a 44-25 victory over Samford in Birmingham. The Bulldogs defense forced four turnovers and four three-and-outs.
Purple & Gold's pick was "The Citadel, 31-28"

ETSU at Mercer
Mercer's John Russ threw three touchdown passes as Mercer crushed the out manned East Tennessee State Bucs, 52-0. Russ was 17 of 26 for 269 yards and ran eight times for 94 yards and a score. Tee Mitchell had 16 carries for 94 yards and a touchdown, and Robert Brown caught four passes for 82 yards and two scores.
Purple & Gold's pick was " Bears win, 49-0"
