65 days to WCU Football Kickoff - John Peacock

Welcome to the eleventh annual Catamount Football "100 days to Football Kickoff Countdown".

During the countdown, we'll highlight the player whose number corresponds to that day in the countdown. To help pass those long summer days, and hopefully get the Catamount faithful more excited about the upcoming season, and knowledgeable of the team members, we'll continue the football countdown each day until kickoff Saturday.

Since the official 2021 Catamount Football Roster has not yet been published, we'll use the 2021 Catamount Football Preseason Roster for jersey numbers until the new roster is posted, at which point we'll switch to the official roster for the remainder of the countdown.

It's now 65 days until the kickoff of Catamount football on Saturday, September 4th, 2021, against the Eastern Kentucky Colonels, in E.J. Whitmire Stadium / Bob Waters Field, Cullowhee, NC.

No players are currently assigned to #65, so we will highlight another assistant coach:

John Peacock

TITLE Assistant Coach / Offensive Line

John Peacock joined the Western Carolina football coaching staff in the spring of 2021 as the offensive line coach. Peacock came to Cullowhee after a year as an assistant coach, recruiting coordinator, and run game coordinator at Tusculum University, where he also coached the offensive line.

Peacock helped lead the top offense in the South Atlantic Conference in the spring 2021 season as the Pioneers averaged a league-best 533.4 yards of offense per game, including 1,971 passing yards and 696 rushing yards.

Prior to making a move to Greeneville, Tenn., Peacock spent three seasons (2016-2018) on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Valdosta State University, where he coached the tight ends and fullbacks. While on staff, the Blazers' running attack led the nation in yards per carry (7.2). He was also a part of the perfect 14-0 season and both Gulf South Conference and NCAA Division II national championships. During the 2018 title run, the Blazers finished the season leading the country in scoring (52.0 ppg) and ranked fourth nationally in total offense (523.9 yards per game - 1st in Gulf South).

While at Valdosta, Peacock mentored a combined seven All-Conference selections, including three All-American linemen.

In 2019, Peacock served as the offensive line graduate assistant coach at the University of South Florida and was part of a rushing team that led the Bulls to a team yards per carry average (4.4). His top two ball carriers each netted more than 5.1 yards per rush attempt.

Before returning to Valdosta State in 2016, Peacock coached eight years (2008-2015) at Buchholz High School in Gainesville, where he mentored the offensive and defensive line with both the junior varsity and varsity programs.

A native of Gainesville, Fla., Peacock earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Valdosta State while also minoring in philosophy.

John and his fiance, Ms. Erika Alexander of Clermont, Fla., are planning to wed in February 2022.
