With Sunday's win over Appalachian State, the Catamounts swept the very final weekend series over the Mountaineers. The Cats improved their record to 80-46-1 all-time against ASU on the baseball diamond, and are 39-19 in games played in Cullowhee.

From this point forward, you can expect a yearly home and home series on the baseball diamond with the Mountaineers, as Head Coach Bobby Moranda told the Asheville Citizens-Times, “We’re going to miss them as conference rivals, but we’ll keep playing them,” Moranda said. “We have a home-and-home against them next season."  So for those of you hoping to never see these guys again in Cullowhee, sorry.

In today's victory, Jordan Smith not only picked up the win, but matched his career-high of 11 strikeouts, his previous career-best of 11 strikeouts was against UNCG in March of 2012. Junior closer Tyler Powell pitched his 10th save of the season, his second save on the weekend.

What a nice way to send off the Mountaineers off to the Sun Belt, three losses in three days. So if you're sad to thee them go, just remember, in the Big Three this year (football, basketball & baseball), Western beat the Hillbillies two of three, so that's a series win.
