24 Days Until WCU Football Kickoff - Brandon Benjamin / Zayveon Wells



It's now 24 days until the kickoff of Catamount Football on Thursday, August 29, 2024, against NC State Wolfpack in Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC 
 
To help pass those long summer days, and hopefully get the Catamount faithful more excited about the upcoming season, and knowledgeable of the team members, we'll continue the football countdown each day until kickoff day.

Today we will highlight two players that wear #24, one on offense and one of defense:

2023 (Junior): Did not see game action.

2022 (Sophomore): Played in two games as an offensive reserve and on special teams … Made his WCU debut in the home win over Presbyterian (Sept. 17), rushing once for a seven-yard gain … Also played in the regular-season finale against nationally-ranked Chattanooga (Nov. 19), credited with one tackle.

Prior to Western Carolina: Transferred to WCU from Missouri State during the summer of 2022; At Missouri State: Joined the football team for the spring semester in 2020-21, but did not participate in any games as a true freshman or during his redshirt freshman season in 2021;

High School: Was a two-time team MVP for coach Sam Brown at Dunbar High in Fort Myers, Fla. ... Led Tigers to a pair of district titles (2017, 2018) in his tenure and was 33-13 at the varsity level ... Set school record with more than 3,000 career rushing yards while averaging 10.6 yards per carry ... Was listed a three-star recruit in the class of 2020 by ESPN and 247sports.com ... Spent the fall of 2020 at Georgia Knights Prep Academy.

Personal: Full name is Brandon Ke'Shawn Benjamin ... Is the son of Syreeta Johnson and Kenny Benjamin ... Has two brothers - Kenny, who finished his collegiate career at WCU in 2021 - and Anthony, and a sister, Kylie.

2023 (Freshman): Saw action in one game on the season, playing in the home win over Charleston Southern (Sept. 23) as a defensive substitution and on special teams … Credited with one tackle on an assist against the Bucs … Credited with three tackles in WCU’s annual Spring Game.

Prior to Western Carolina: Credited with 32 total tackles including one for loss with three interceptions, three forced fumbles with one defensive TD as a senior … On offense, rushed for 851 yards on 119 carries with 13 touchdowns … Listed as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and a two-star recruit by Rivals.
