15 Days Until WCU Football Kickoff - Jai Boyd / Antoine Williams







It's now 15 days until the kickoff of Catamount Football on Thursday, August 29, 2024, against NC State Wolfpack in Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC 
 
To help pass those long summer days, and hopefully get the Catamount faithful more excited about the upcoming season, and knowledgeable of the team members, we'll continue the football countdown each day until kickoff day.

Today we will highlight two players that wear #16, one on offense and one of defense::

#15 Jai Boyd 










Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 6-2
Weight: 170
Class: Redshirt Freshman
Hometown: Winnsboro, S.C.
High School: Fairfield Central HS











2023 (Freshman): Played in two games, remaining eligible for a redshirt … Did not record an official statistics … Made his collegiate debut in the season opener at Arkansas (Sept. 2) while also playing in the home win over Charleston Southern (Sept. 23).

Prior to Western Carolina: Two-way player as a prep playing wide receiver and free safety … Caught 48 passes for 1,076 yards and 10 touchdowns as a senior, adding a punt return for a score.


#15 Antoine Williams







Position: Linebacker
Height: 5-10
Weight: 200
Class: Redshirt Senior
Hometown: Birmingham, Ala.
High School: Pinson Valley HS








2023 (Redshirt Junior): Played in 10 of the team’s 11 games with three starts, missing the season opener at Arkansas … Credited with 39 total tackles, sixth on the WCU squad finishing with 16 solo stops and two tackles for loss … Posted double-digit tackles one time … Added a forced fumble and a fumble recovery … Credited with three quarterback hurries and two pass breakups … Made his WCU debut in the home win over nationally-ranked Samford (Sept. 9), recording his first tackle as a Catamount … Recorded his WCU-best 10 tackles against Mercer (Oct. 28), adding a tackle for loss with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery … Tallied eight total tackles at Wofford (Nov. 4), including a TFL … Selected preseason second-team All-Southern Conference by the league's head coaches ... Named second-team preseason All-America by Stats Perform, third-team preseason The Bluebloods, and fourth-team preseason All-America by Phil Steele ... Listed on the Buck Buchanan Award Watch List ... Named to the 2023-24 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

Prior to Western Carolina: Transferred to WCU during the summer before the 2023 season ... Saw action in 24 games over three seasons at Austin Peay (2020-22) ... Credited with 100 career tackles over three seasons with 47 solo stops and 12.5 tackles for loss with four sacks ... Forced two fumbles with a pair of recoveries ... Was named third-team 2022 Stats Perform FCS All-America and was a finalist for the Stats Perform Buck Buchanan Award, finishing 22nd in the national vote ... Was selected to the HERO Sports Sophomore All-America team in 2022 ... Tabbed All-ASUN Conference in 2022; 

High School: Played linebacker for head coach Patrick Nix at Pinson Valley, winning the 2017 and 2018 Class 6A state championships ... Recorded 80 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks as a senior ... Named to the Alabama Sports Writer Association's Class 6A All-State team ... Named 2019 All-Trussville Tribune Defensive Player of the Year and to AL.com's All-Birmingham High School Football Team ... Rated as the No. 6 linebacker in Alabama, according to MaxPreps.com ... Also competed in wrestling as a prep.
