This week's Purple & Gold football picks (9-24-16)

It's week four in the SoCon, and time to make this week's football picks.

On the schedule, we only have four games on tap, with 3 teams receiving a bye week. There are two conference games and two out of conference games.

In the first conference game, surprising ETSU visits Wofford. In the other game, the preseason favorite and defending co-champion Chattanooga will be tested by the Bulldogs of Samford.

Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016

East Tennessee State at Wofford    -   1:30 pm  - watch on ESPN3
The undefeated Bucs travel to Sparkle City to pay a visit to the Terriers in the first game on Saturday. While the impressive Bucs look to extend their winning streak to three games, the ground game of the Terriers roll up the yardage and pull out the win,  17-14.

Samford at Chattanooga   -   2:00 pm   -    watch on SoCon Digital Network
Two undefeated teams clash in Chattanooga on Saturday afternoon, and will probably answer questions about the strength of both teams. Will the high powered offensive squad from Birmingham be held in check by what has been described as the best defensive unit in the SoCon? This time, defense wins out by a final score of 28-17 in favor of the Mocs.

VMI at Bucknell    -   3:00 pm
The Keydets travel to Bucknell where they pick up their second win of the young season. It's Keydets 28, Bison 21

Furman at Coastal Carolina   -   6:00 pm
The Paladins travel to the low country of South Carolina to meet Coastal Carolina in Conway. Unfortunately for the Paladins, they break the SoCon winning streak in FCS out of conference games, in a 10-24 loss.
