WCU / Wofford Post Game Quotes

Coach Mark Speir -
"I'm proud of what these guys are doing, and they gave us a chance to win against a real good football team," said head coach Mark Speir during post-game comments.

"It hurts. I told my guys I know it hurts, but it's something where we've got to keep that sick feeling in your stomach and dig a little deeper in practice, work a little harder, and eventually we're going to win those ball games."

Coach Mike Ayers -
“I knew it was going to be tough,” Wofford coach Mike Ayers said. “I just didn't know it was going to be that tough.”

"Every week, these guys have gotten better in some area," Ayers said about the Catamounts during post-game comments. "These guys really care about one another. These guys really care about their coaching staff. And these guys really care about turning this program around. That's why they fight so hard."

“It was a game that never seemed like it was going to end,” continued Ayers. “They did some good stuff scheming us. They have talented players and when they execute they are as good as anyone in the conference. Offensively we had another struggle early on. Either we are not understanding what we have to do or making mistakes in execution. Every time that we do not have a productive drive and get a feel for how someone is trying to defend us, it takes longer and longer. Towards the end of the first half we started to get a feel for the defense and came out strong in the second half. It was crazy. I feel like I have been in a fight taking body shots. This was a fight.”

Troy Mitchell -
“On my last play, I was trying to get the first down and wound up hitting my head on the ground,” Mitchell said. “It was ringing, just ringing a little bit, and the doctor pulled me.”

Courtland Carson -
“I give a lot of credit to our coaching staff,” Carson said. “If you see where we came from last year, giving up a lot of points (in a 49-20 loss to Wofford) to this year just giving up one score in the first half.”
