Week number 10 is now in the books.
There was a couple of surprises in Saturday's games, as Mercer upsets #1 Chattanooga and the Cats romped over the Paladins. With that win, the Cats assured themselves of a winning record for the season, and at least a third place finish in the SoCon.
Fuman at Western
Troy Mitchell threw for 305 yards and three touchdowns and added 55 yards and two touchdowns on the ground to help lead Western Carolina to a 48-10 win over Furman. Western Carolina has won five of six after starting the season 1-2. Furman has lost three of four following a three game winning streak last month.
Chattanooga at Mercer
The Bear's John Russ completed a 64-yard touchdown pass to Jimmie Robinson that sealed Mercer's upset win against Chattanooga 17-14. Russ hit Robinson to make the score 17-7 with 13:48 left in the third quarter. Chattanooga hurt itself with four turnovers during the game
VMI at The Citadel
The Citadel forced six turnovers on their way to beat VMI 35-14, and claim sole possession of first place in the Southern Conference. Cam Jackson had 12 carries for 100 yards with a 68-yard touchdown run. Quinlan Washington had two interceptions with a touchdown, and Tevin Floyd had a late pick-6 for The Citadel, but it was Eric Goins made five field goals that sealed the win for the Bulldogs.
Clark Atlanta at Samford
Samford's freshman quarterback Devlin Hodges tied a career-high with three touchdown passes, as Samford cruise to a 43-0 win over Division II Clark Atlanta. Hodges completed 24 of 34 passes for 307 yards, including first-half touchdown passes of 51 and 42 yards to Obajimi and a 24-yarder to Gavin Sinclair as Samford (4-4) took a 33-0 lead into halftime.
