Saturday's SoCon Football Round-up (11-8-14)

This week, Chattanooga wrapped up their strangle hold on the Southern Conference automatic bid to the NCAA playoffs and the conference championship, while the number two team, Western Carolina. picked up their second consecutive loss in row of Saturday's game.

Wofford at Chattanooga: With the Mocs' 31-13 win over Wofford, Chattanooga clinched the Southern Conference’s automatic NCAA playoff bid, as well as the league championship, with just one conference game remaining. In a game that was very competitive in the first half, Wofford went into the locker room down only one point, 13-14, however the Mocs defensive unit held the Terriers scoreless in the second  half.   Keon Williams ran for three touchdowns and finished the game with 91 yards on 27 carries. Jacob Huesman was 26-of-33 passing for 250 yards and one touchdown pass.

Furman at The Citadel:  The Bulldogs picked up their second conference win of the season with an overtime win against the visiting Paladins.  In the game, Furman quickly went up 21-13 in the first quarter, and held the lead until late in the 4th quarter. Trailing 35-28 with abour 4 mininutes remaining in the game, the Bulldogs drove 80 yards in seven plays, to tie the game and force overtime on a 6-yard touchdown run from Tyler Renew. The Citadel's Aaron Miller finished 8 of 13 for 142 yards passing and added 91 yards on the ground with 19 carries, and punched in the winning score from the 2 on the overtime period.

Western Carolina at Samford:  Jumping out to a 28-7 first half lead, the Bulldogs held off the Catamounts in the second have in their 34-20 victory over Western Carolina, which was their 11th straight victory over the Catamounts. With the win, Samford head football coach Pat Sullivan became Samford's all-time winningest coach 46 games, a record held by former coach Terry Bowden. The Bulldogs' Michael Eubank finished with 15-of-24 passing for 232 yards for the Bulldogs and Danzel Williams ran for 156 yards on 27 carries.
