The Catamounts open play Friday night in in the first round of the Southern Conference Basketball Tournament, in Asheville's US Cellular Center.
The number six seed Catamounts, meet the number eleven seed Bulldogs of the Citadel in the tournament's opening night-cap game. This game will be carried by the Catamount Sports Network and can also be viewed on ESPN3, with a scheduled start time of 8:30 pm.
The Bulldogs are 8-21 on the season, and 5-13 in Southern Conference play. The Catamounts won the only regular season meeting this year with the Bulldogs, by a final score of 72-55, back on January 5th in Charleston, and the Cats are 29-34 overall against the Bulldogs, having won the last three.
The Citadel has seen improved play in the last four regular season games, going 2-2, with only a 3 point loss in their BracketBuster game to Presbyterian College, and a 7 point loss in the season finale to Wofford, 69-62. The Bulldogs also had an overtime win against Appalachian State during that period.
The Bulldogs are led by potential SoCon Player of the Year candidate and two time Player of the Week Award winner, senior Mike Groselle, who stands at forth place overall in scoring in the SoCon at 15.7 points per game and is ranked 3d in rebounding at 7.7 rebounds per game. Groselle averaged 20.5 points and 8.5 rebounds as the Bulldogs split a pair of games to close the regular season.
The Bulldogs are averaging 64.5, for 8th place in the SoCon,and are giving up and average of 73.1 points per game.
