Van Pelt Sets New School Record in Hammer

Jacksonville, FL - Senior Jamie Van Pelt broke the WCU school record in the hammer Friday morning in the NCAA East Preliminary Round, he placed 22nd overall in the event.

Van Pelt finished tops in his flight with his record throw of 59.89m (196-6). He was seventh overall after the first two flights had concluded with just one flight to go before the finals round.

Van Pelt finishes his career having won the Southern Conference Championship in the hammer this season in outdoors, and also placed second in the discus. Van Pelt led Western Carolina in the discus, the javelin and had the second best throw in the shot put.
