Baseball: Cats pound the Cougars, 13-1

The Catamounts spoiled the home opener for the Washington State Cougars, pounding out the runs to a 13-1 final score.  This was game one of 4 games scheduled in the series.

National Player of the Week Jeremy Null was the starting pitcher for the Catamounts and picked up the win.  Null is now 2-0 on the season. Null pitched 7 inning, facing 27 batters striking out 6 and had only one walk and give up one run.

The Catamounts scored 13 runs off 14 hits, scoring 3 runs in the second, 5 runs in the sixth inning, 3 runs in the seventh inning and 2 runs in the ninth inning.  The score could have been much worse for the Cougars as the Cats left a total of 13 runners stranded on base.

“We were not competitive tonight,” Cougar Head Coach Donnie Marbut said after the game. “At some point pride has to set in so this does not happen again.”  View Marbut's post game interview here.
