Series: The Cats are 11-4-1 all time against the Bulldogs
The Running' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb's head coach Rusty Stroupe will visit Hennon Stadium on Wednesday for the return game of a non-conference home-and-home series between the Dogs and Cats. The Cats scored four runs in the top of the ninth inning for a 5-2 victory over Gardner-Webb back on March 27 in Boiling Springs, NC.
In last year's solo game between the two, Gardner-Webb beat the Cats 6-4 in Boiling Springs, NC.
The Runnin' Bulldogs will enter this game with a 20-15 overall record, and are coming off a 1-2 series loss against North Carolina A&T this past weekend in Boiling Springs. Gardner-Webb is 5-6 in road games this year, and are 6-4 in their last 10 games. The Bulldog's RPI is 139.

Spring Football Game - April 20 - only 5 days away
Western Carolina Catamount Football and second-year head coach Mark Speir will host its annual Spring Game on Saturday, April 20, at E.J. Whitmire Stadium/Bob Waters Field.
The free event is scheduled to start at 1:00pm.
The full day of activities kick off at 9:30am with three and a half hours of tailgating on-campus in Cullowhee. The Stadium lot and a portion of the Creek Lot is reserved for Catamount Club members by permit, with parking and general tailgating available in the remainder of the Creek Lot, as well as the lots around Camp Lab, Belk Building and Bardo Fine & Performing Arts Center.
Catamount Baseball and Softball will also be in action as both teams host Georgia Southern. Baseball will begin at 4pm at Childress Field/Hennon Stadium. Softball will host the Eagles in a doubleheader with games set for 1pm and 3pm. Fans who attend the football scrimmage prior to Catamount Baseball will receive a voucher to get $2 off their baseball ticket. Catamount Softball is free admission for all fans throughout the entire season.

Cats take 1-0 lead over Samford
The Catamounts were cruising along with an 8-3 lead in Friday night's game against the defending SoCon champs Samford Bulldogs until they hit the top of the 9th inning.
Only three outs separated the Cats from a petty convincing win over the Bulldogs.
But in the top of the ninth, the bottom fell out for Western Carolina. Samford scored five runs off the three home runs given up by Catamount pitching in the inning. Those five runs erased the comfortable five-run lead held by the Cats.
Samford's C.K. Irby and Christiaan Durdaller each hit a two-run homer, and Caleb Bryson hit a solo home run in the inning.
The Catamounts now with their back to the wall, came to bat in the bottom of the 9th. Up to the challenge the Cats loaded the bases and scored the winning run off an Aaron Attaway single to center field.

Samford Head Coach Casey Dunn brings his defending conference champions to Cullowhee for a weekend series with the Catamounts. Last season, the Bulldogs defeated the Cats four times, they swept the series in Birmingham and won the conference tournament opener between the two teams to give the Bulldogs their fourth win over Western.
The Bulldogs currently own a 19-14 overall record, and are currently in sixth place in the conference with a 8-7 record that places them two and one-half games out of first place. Samford completed a three game home sweep over Wofford (4-11) last week-end, after dropping three to Charleston at home the prior weekend. The Bulldogs are 5-6 on the road this season, with an RPI of 138.
Samford is led by preseason All-American and SoCon Player of the Year, junior outfielder Phillip Ervin batting .368 with seven doubles, nine home runs and 22 RBI. C.K. Irby is batting .349 with nine doubles, seven home runs and a team-high 36 RBI and Tommy Corbin is batting .345 with five doubles and 24 RBI.

The Tigers take game one, 12-9
Clemson's Jon McGibbon hit a single in the top of the ninth inning that pushed across home plate the run that gave #17 Clemson the lead as the Tigers defeated Western Carolina 12-9 in front of 1,373 fans at Hennon Stadium on Tuesday night.
The two teams will conclude their home-and-home season series at Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson on April 24.

Jack Leggett and the nationally ranked Clemson Tigers will visit Cullowhee on Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in the first game of this season's home and home series between Western and Clemson. The Cats will make their return visit to Clemson on April 24th.
The Cats won both games in the home & home series in 2012, after dropping both games in 2011. Clemson (21-11) moved into the national rankings this week - 22nd according to Baseball America and 17th in the Collegiate Baseball rankings.
The Tigers are coming off a three game sweep of Boston College on the road, and will come to Cullowhee in the midst of a five game winning streak. The Tigers are currently 7-4 this season in games played on the road, so they haven't played a lot of games away from the friendly confines of the Doug Kingsmore Stadium in Clemson.
The Tigers are currently in second place in the ACC's Atlantic Division, a half game behind Florida State.
Clemson's RPI is '21' - with the Catamounts sitting at '111'. The Cats are 11 - 6 in games at home this season, and are 2 - 1 going against teams with an RPI of 1-50.
The Starting Pitchers:
Clemson - senior righthander Jonathan Meyer (2-0, 3.68 ERA). The San Diego, CA native has made eight relief appearances and one start for a total of 22.0 innings pitched. He has surrendered 27 hits (.307 opponents' batting average) and two walks with 20 strikeouts.
Western Carolina - the Catamounts will counter with senior lefthander Adam Curtis (1-1, 3.05 ERA) on the mound. The Arden, NC native has made four starts for a total of 20.2 innings pitched. He has allowed 24 hits (.282 opponents' batting average) and five walks with 17 strikeouts.

The Cats win game & series over Furman
Western led the game 3-1 in the ninth, when Western's closer, Preston Hatcher, walked pinch-hitter Jake Jones with one out in the inning. Hatcher then gave up the game tying two-run home run to left field by Furman freshman Jordan Simpson.
Neither team was able to mount a serious threat in the 10th or 11th inning, but in the top of the 12th, Ridings doubled down the right field line. Then Paladin reliever Drake Browne hit Tyler White. Hatcher now batting, completed a sacrifice bunt, moving the base runners. Dykota Spiess was intentionally walked by Browne to load the bases. Browne then struck out Austin Neary for the second out of the inning. With the bases now loaded, a wild pitch by Browne allowed Ridings to score from third base, breaking the tie and giving the Cats a 5-4 advantage.
Hatcher (4-2) worked the final 4 2/3 innings of the game to earn the win. He allowed two runs on two hits, walked three, and struck out one.

Cats win game #2, rubber game Sunday
Tyler White slammed a two-run ninth inning double to break open a tie ball game as Western Carolina went on to a 8-5 victory over Furman in Southern Conference baseball action Saturday afternoon at Furman's Latham Stadium.
Saturday's win evened the series 1-1, between Western Carolina and Furman heading into the third and final game of the series on Sunday at 1:00 pm.
The Paladins tried to rally in the bottom of the ninth, putting two runners on and scoring on a ground out to make it 8-5. With the potential tying run at the plate, and with two outs, Preston Hatcher responded by striking out Will Muzika to end the game.
Hatcher picked up the win for the Catamounts, while Ben Carlson was charged with the loss for the Paladins.

The Catamounts visit Travlers Rest this weekend for a weekend, three game series with the Furman Paladins.
Furman is riding high, as they are coming off a midweek win over 11th ranked South Carolina Gamecocks, 6-5 while the Catamounts suffered a humiliating defeat at the bats of UNC Asheville, 0-15.
In conference play this season, the Paladins are 5-7, a record that puts them in 7th place, tied with Samford. Furman won two at Elon, beat App State twice at home, won only 1 game at Davidson and was swept by Samford at home.
The Paladins are only 3-7 in their last 10 games, despite having knocked off South Carolina in their last outing.

Bulldogs slam Cats, 15-0
In one of the most embarrassing losses for Catamount baseball in recent memory, the Cats were demolished 0-15, by a team that seems to have the Catamounts number.
This loss was inflicted by a team that has one of the worst records in the NCAA, a team that is in last place in the Big South Conference, a team that has 21 losses in the season and was on a eight game losing streak, the UNC Asheville Bulldogs.
Not only was the Cats shutout for the first time this season, last night's melt down by the Catamounts was Asheville's first shutout this season, and the first-ever Bulldog shutout over Western Carolina in all previous 73 meetings.
WCU pitchers allowed seven hitters to slam multiple-hits, including UNCA's Tommy Houmard who went 4-for-5, and Ian Graham who drove in five runs on a 3-for-4 showing.
Bulldog starter Corey Randall pitched six innings and allowed just two hits, then Dean Roland retired all six hitters he faced while Dillon Tabar pitched a scoreless ninth. In comparison, the five Catamount pitchers that faced UNCA allowed 20 hits, with earned 15 runs.
The Bulldogs have now won 4 of the last 5 meetings between the two teams stretching back over the last three seasons.
