Head Coach: Sam Roberts was promoted to head coach of the VMI baseball program on August 5, 2022, after serving as an assistant coach since 2017. Roberts's overall record at VMI is 16-13 (1st).
The Series: Western owns a 70-23 overall record with VMI, and is 35-9 in games played in Cullowhee. The Cats are 7-3 in the last 10 games played.
In the SoCon preseason polls, the Keydets were picked to finish 7th in the coaches poll & 8th in the media poll. Designated hitter, Brett Cook, Jr. was tapped as first-team all-conference, and shortstop Zac Morris & 3d baseman Justin Starke were selected to the second team.
The Keydets took two of three from UNCG over the weekend to move to 16-13 on the season, matching last season’s win total with nearly two months to play in the season. Third baseman Justin Starke is third in the SoCon with a .393 batting average and shares the league lead with 32 RBIs. He also paces the SoCon with 22 stolen bases, helping the Keydets lead DI with 115 thefts as a team. VMI currently leads the league with a .329 team batting average and runs scored (251), hits (315), and steal attempts (135).
