This week's Purple & Gold football picks (10-7-17)

It's week #6 in the SoCon, and time to pick Saturday's games.

All five games are set for Saturday, and once again, four are conference games and one is an OOC game.

Samford (3-2, 1-1 SoCon) at VMI (0-5, 0-2 SoCon)   1:30 noon - watch on ESPN3
The Bulldogs head to Lexington coming off a big win over the Citadel. The Keydets are simply outmanned and go down for the sixth time this season.  Dogs win 49-10.

Western Carolina (4-1, 2-0 SoCon) at Wofford (4-0, 2-0 SoCon)  1:30 pm EDT - watch on ESPN3
The game of the week has the #22 Catamounts traveling down the mountain to Spartanburg, SC to meet the nationally ranked #5 Wofford Terriers. In what is arguably the best SoCon offensive unit meeting the best SoCon defensive unit, the Cats pull off the upset by a 38-21 final score.

Mercer  (2-3, 1-2 SoCon) at The Citadel (3-1, 1-1 SoCon)   2:00 pm EDT - watch on ESPN3
The Bears travel to Charleston in what is probably this week's toss-up game. With both teams underachieving, the nod goes to the home-standing Bulldogs.  Dogs win 28-24.

Robert Morris (2-2) at ETSU (2-3)  3:30 pm EDT - watch on ESPN3
The Bucs host the Robert Morris Colonials from the Northeast Conference for their first homecoming game in their new stadium. The Colonials cooperate in the game day activities, as the Bucs capture their first HC victory inside William B. Green Stadium. Final score, 21-10.

Furman (2-3, 1-1) at Chattanooga (1-4, 1-1)   4:00 pm EDT - watch on ESPN3
The Paladins travel to Chattanooga hoping to continue heaping misery on the Mocs. Chattanooga shows a few sparks of life in the first three quarters, but the Paladins shine in the 4th. Furman wins, 28-21.

Record this season:
27-6 overall
