Western Carolina placed the highest number of student-athletes on the Academic All-Southern Conference Team for the 2014 spring season. The Catamounts placed a total of 41 student-athletes on the team, the league office announced Wednesday afternoon..
Elon came second in with 40 selections, and Samford was third with 35. Appalachian State (33), Chattanooga (33) and Wofford (31) also eclipsed 30 selections. Each of the 11 current Southern Conference schools placed at least 12 student-athletes on the team.
To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade point average entering the spring season and required to compete in at least 50 percent of their teams’ competitions during the spring campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least 24 credit hours in the previous two semesters.
