Western Carolina junior J.T. Poston made his first visit to the deserts of Arizona by capturing the 98th Southwestern Amateur at the Desert Mountain Club’s Renegade Course.
Poston jumped six places in the final round to finish at 276 (-4), two shots clear of defending champion Kevin Dougherty.
“I felt good coming into today. I had lots of birdies yesterday but made some dumb bogeys. Today my warm-up was good and I had five birdies and no bogeys.” said Poston
The Southwestern Amateur is the highest-ranked amateur golf tournament in the Southwest United States and the championship attracts the world’s best amateur golfers.
