Ross Heffley turns a double play for Rome Thursday at McCormick Field. / John Coutlakis/jcoutlakis@citizen-times.com |
Heffley's debut as a Rome Brave was a good one, especailly in the eyes of his new manager. The game was almost a homecoming for Heffley, with his family in the stands, and playing in a familiar stadium. Ross was playing his first game as a pro, at his familiar second base and in Asheville. But this time, rather than the Bulldogs, the opponent was the Asheville Tourists.
He started the game at second base and finished the night 2-for-5, with two RBIs and a stolen base. “I like what I saw,” said Rome manager Randy Ingle, to the Asheville Citizen-Times. “I thought he turned a real good double play out there on defense, and, I tell you, he swung the bat. He hit that one ball up the middle, and I was thankful it didn’t hit the pitcher. That might have taken him all the way to second base.”
All Catamount baseball fans wish him well in the Braves organization.
