Old Cullowhee is downtrodden now, dealt successive blows by changes to roadway patterns, economic instability and the corporatization of college life up the hill.
With those injuries came insult: when WCU decided it should ride to the economic rescue of a village in distress it saddled up and galloped 15 minutes north, to Dillsboro.
