Head Coach: Billy Godwin, UNC Greensboro announced in August of 2019 that Billy Godwin has been hired as baseball head coach. Godwin had spent the previous five years with the New York Yankees, overseeing all amateur scouting in North Carolina and South Carolina.

The Spartans come into the game having lost their last series against Samford in Birmingham. 

The Catamounts enter the weekend series in fourth place, behind third-place Samford (10-8) and just ahead of the fifth-place tie between ETSU and UNCG at 9-9. The Catamounts can finish as high in the standings as third, needing at least two wins over the Spartans and two Samford losses in its series with Mercer. UNCG (25-27, 9-9 SoCon) has won its last four league series, winning 2-of-3 against Samford, VMI, and ETSU and sweeping The Citadel. The Spartans have won four of their last six games overall on the season.

Both teams enter the weekend series following midweek losses. WCU rallied from a four-run deficit in the top of the ninth inning before falling in extras at Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, while UNCG lost in seven innings, 20-2, at NC State in Raleigh.
