Six games are on the schedule for Wednesday night, with Samford having the most difficult opponent of the six, notwithstanding the Bulldogs are riding a 2 game-losing streak and a loss to an NAIA opponent the last time out.  The other five games should be winnable for each SoCon team, here's to a good Wednesday night of games,  on the "Road to Asheville"...

The SoCon went 1-1 on Tuesday night, with Furman winning and VMI taking a loss...

Furman 65 -  Appalachian State 61

Mike Bothwell scored a game-high 23 points and keyed a late 11-0 run to lead Furman to a 65-61 victory over Appalachian State on Tuesday night at the Holmes Convocation Center in Boone, N.C. Trailing 57-52 with under six minutes remaining, Furman's Jalen Slawson ended a 0-for-10 shooting drought with a reverse layup and Bothwell went 4-for-4 at the free throw line on Furman's next two possessions to put the Paladins in front 58-57. After a defensive stop, Bothwell buried a triple from the left of the key to give Furman a four-point cushion with 2:49 to go. Marcus Foster rebounded a missed layup by Appalachian's Terence Harcum and Bothwell fed Garrett Hien for a basket in the paint to cap the 11-0 spurt as Furman took a 63-57 advantage with 2:03.


VMI 57 -  Presbyterian 72

After rallying to pull within five points at the half, the VMI basketball team went cold for the first eight minutes of the second half as host Presbyterian College pulled away for a 72-57 win over the Keydets Tuesday night at the Templeton Center in Clinton, South Carolina.  VMI (2-6, 0-0) trailed by double digits in the opening half but stuck together to keep the game close, going into the break trailing by a slim 42-37 margin.
