Baseball: Cats earn series win at Elon

Elon, N.C. - Western Carolina held off Elon and picked up a 11-9 victory Sunday evening in Southern Conference action at Elon's Latham Park.

This victory by the Catamounts gives WCU a series win over Elon and marks the first time since April 2010 that Elon has dropped a home SoCon series, breaking a streak of 11-consecutive home series wins by the Phoenix.

The Cats surged ahead in the sixth inning, capitalizing on three Phoenix errors and pushed across six runs on five hits. Junior reliever Jon Nadale picked up win #2 for the series, and Preston Hatcher  made his second appearance of the weekend and earned his second save of the series. The series final is scheduled for 2:30 pm on Monday afternoon.
