It's now 16 days until the kickoff of Catamount Football on Thursday, August 29, 2024, against NC State Wolfpack in Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC 

 

To help pass those long summer days, and hopefully get the Catamount faithful more excited about the upcoming season, and knowledgeable of the team members, we'll continue the football countdown each day until kickoff day.

Today we will highlight two players that wear #16, one on offense and one of defense::

#16 James Tyre 

Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 5-10
Weight: 160
Class: Redshirt Freshman
Hometown: Suwanee, Ga.
High School: Lambert HS

2023 (Freshman): Did not see game action ... Named to the 2023-24 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

#16 Jordy Lowery

Position: Cornerback
Height: 5-11
Weight: 190
Class: Redshirt Sophomore
Hometown: Bartow, Fla.
High School: Bartow HS

2023 (Redshirt Freshman): Played in all 11 of the teams game as a reserve on defense and on special teams … Credited with three total tackles with two solo stops … Made his collegiate debut in the season-opener at Arkansas (Sept. 2) … Credited with his first career tackle in the home win over Charleston Southern (Sept. 23) … Posted a career-high two tackles in the home rivalry win over ETSU (Nov. 11), adding a pass breakup.

2022 (Freshman): Did not see game action, remaining eligible for a redshirt.

Prior to Western Carolina: Credited with 63 tackles including 49 solo stops over the past two seasons, according to MaxPreps … Recorded seven interceptions including five as a senior … Accounted for 551 all-purpose yards including 308 rushing with a touchdown and 107 receiving as a senior … Listed as a three-star recruit by 247Sports.com and a two-star recruit by Rivals.com … Also plays basketball as a prep where he was an all-county honorable mention as a sophomore and played on the state championship team in 2019.

Personal: Is the son of Darrlyn Hazelton ... Has three siblings: Jakari, Darrasia, and Janae.
