Head Coach: Sam Roberts enters his second season at the helm of the VMI baseball program. The former VMI star and Oakland A's minor leaguer Sam Roberts was promoted to head coach of the VMI baseball program on August 5, 2022 after serving as an assistant coach since 2017. Following the team’s success in his first year, Roberts earned VMI’s Distinguished Coaching Award. VMI finished the season fifth in the nation with a .322 batting average, tied for 44th in hits and tied for 49th in runs. The Keydets ranked 16th in slugging percentage (.529) and 25th in on base percentage (.409). VMI's SoCon winning percentage was the best for the team since 2018 and 26 total wins ties the 2018 squad. VMI tied the school record for the seventh-most wins in a single season in school history.

The Series: The Cats own a 70-25 overall record vs. VMI, in a series that started in 1971. The Cats are 25-12 in games played in Lexington, but are on a 2 game slide to the Keydets. The Cats are 6-4 in the last 10 games played.

This is the finals weekend series for both teams before the conference tournament starts on Wednesday, May 22.  The Keydets are coming off a series sweep by ETSU
