The Series: The Cats are 25-58 all-time versus the Bucs, and are only 7-31 in games played in Johnson City. The Cats are 1-9 in the last ten games played against ETSU but did win the last game by a score of 87-84 in Cullowhee. That game broke a 13-game losing streak with ETSU. The Cats have not won in Johnson City since Feb. 24, 1996.
In the SoCon preseason polls, the Bucs were picked to finish 6th by both the coaches and the media. The Bucs currently rank 9th in the SoCon standing in scoring offense, putting up 70.7 points per game (ppg), however in scoring defense, the Bucs come in second, giving up only 67.8 ppg.
The Bucs are riding a two-game conference win streak by beating both Wofford and VMI on the road. In the VMI win, the Bucs used a stifling defense to come away with a victory as ETSU held VMI to 26 points below VMI's season average. In their first two SoCon games, the Bucs are holding the opposition to 18% from beyond the arc. ETSU shot 46% from the field (25-54) and 4-of-16 (25%) from three-point range and 10-for-21 (48%) at the free throw line.
