Here's a recap look at Thursday's non-conference games, two games the SoCon could have (and maybe should have) won, but fell short:
VMI 77 - Fordham 80
The VMI men's basketball team nearly snapped Fordham University's long winning streak Thursday, but the Keydets fell 80-77 in an overtime thriller at Rose Hill Gym. Senior Sean Conway drilled a three-pointer with 20 seconds left in regulation to tie the game at 68 all and stole the ball in the closing seconds to force overtime. The Rams, winners of 10 straight and 11-1 on the season entering the game, again pulled ahead by three in the closing seconds of overtime and had the ball with under 15 seconds to play. The Keydets forced a turnover and had three chances from downtown to force a second overtime but fell just short.
UNCG 64 - Eastern Kentucky 68
UNCG men's basketball's Dante Treacy posted a team-high 15 points as the Spartans dropped a Thursday afternoon contest to Eastern Kentucky, 68-64, at Baptist Health Arena. Treacy posted a 4-of-9 effort from the field while shooting 5-of-6 from the foul line.
Brown-Jones finished with 12 points, shooting 4-of-7 from the field and 4-of-4 from the foul line. He also posted five rebounds.
Leyte contributed 10 points, shooting 5-for-7 from field goals. The Spartans shot 42.3 percent from the field for the contest, shooting exactly that percentage in each period.
UNCG held a 37-34 advantage on the glass over the Colonels.
The game totaled ten ties and 16 lead changes.
