33 days to WCU Football Kickoff - #33 Curtis Roach





 

Welcome to the eleventh annual Catamount Football "100 days to Football Kickoff Countdown".

During the countdown, we'll highlight the player whose number corresponds to that day in the countdown. To help pass those long summer days, and hopefully get the Catamount faithful more excited about the upcoming season, and knowledgeable of the team members, we'll continue the football countdown each day until kickoff Saturday.

Since the official 2021 Catamount Football Roster has not yet been published, we'll use the 2021 Catamount Football Preseason Roster for jersey numbers until the new roster is posted, at which point we'll switch to the official roster for the remainder of the countdown.

2020-21 (Redshirt Junior): Was awarded a grant-in-aid scholarship during preseason camp in the summer of 2020 … Played in all nine games on the season with a pair of starts at spur linebacker … Finished the season with 25 tackles including 13 solo stops … Recorded a career-high eight tackles including four solo stops at North Carolina (Dec. 5), forcing a fumble against the Tar Heels … Collected four tackles and his first career interception at Furman (Feb. 20).

2019 (Redshirt Sophomore*): Played in all 12 of the team’s seasonal games on the year between special teams and a defensive reserve … Credited with 18 total tackles including eight solo stops … Recorded a then-career-high three tackles four times including at N.C. State (Sept. 7), at The Citadel (Oct. 12), at Wofford (Oct. 19), and at home against Samford (Nov. 16) … Added one rush attempt for 11 yards and a first down as the holder on a fake field goal and posted a second rushing attempt on a two-point conversion coming on a fake PAT to score two points at Chattanooga (Sept. 28).

2018 (Redshirt Sophomore): Limited during the season to just two games played due to injury … Did not record any statistics … Saw action in the season-opener against Newberry (Sept. 1) and at Gardner-Webb (Sept. 14) … Returned to the lineup during WCU’s annual Spring Drills ... Granted a medical hardship redshirt during the summer to regain the year.

2017 (Redshirt Freshman): Saw action in nine of the team's 12 games on the season, making his collegiate debut in the home-opener against Davidson ... Recorded a then career-high two tackles - both solo stops - including a tackle for loss against Davidson ... Recovered a fumble in the road win at Chattanooga (Sept. 30).

2016 (Freshman): Did not see game action ... Redshirted ... Credited with two tackles including one for a six-yard loss in WCU's annual Spring Game.

Prior to Western Carolina: Was twice named first-team Forsyth County News All-County after both his junior and senior seasons ... Recorded 78 tackles with 47 solo stops including three tackles for loss, each coming as a sack as a senior ... Tallied eight passes defended with five interceptions ... Was a Class AAAAAA Georgia All-State honorable mention ... As a junior tallied 65 total hits with a sack, seven pass breakups, and two interceptions ... Came to Cullowhee

Personal: Is the son of Carrie and Kirk Roach ... His father, Kirk, is a WCU Hall of Fame placekicker who was a four-time all-conference selection and three-time All-America honoree.
