27 days to WCU Football Kickoff - #27 Trevor Childers



Welcome to the eleventh annual Catamount Football "100 days to Football Kickoff Countdown".

During the countdown, we'll highlight the player whose number corresponds to that day in the countdown. To help pass those long summer days, and hopefully get the Catamount faithful more excited about the upcoming season, and knowledgeable of the team members, we'll continue the football countdown each day until kickoff Saturday.

Since the official 2021 Catamount Football Roster has not yet been published, we'll use the 2021 Catamount Football Preseason Roster for jersey numbers until the new roster is posted, at which point we'll switch to the official roster for the remainder of the countdown.

2020-21 (Senior): Played in all nine of the team’s games between the fall and spring season making two starts against VMI (March 6) and The Citadel (March 13) … Finished second on the team with 58 total tackles including 28 solo stops and 2.0 tackles for loss with a sack … Recorded a tackle in each game on the season including a season-high nine twice, both at North Carolina (Dec. 5) where he was a team captain and at Mercer (March 20) … Posted tackles for loss at Eastern Kentucky (Nov. 21) and North Carolina, forcing a fumble on a sack that led to a WCU touchdown … Tallied his first career interception at EKU, returning the pick 14 yards … Had six solo stops twice coming at Samford (Feb. 27) ... Named to the 2020-21 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

2019 (Junior)
: Started 11 of the 12 seasonal games in which he played … Finished the season second on the team with 99 total tackles including 44 solo stops and 7.5 tackles for loss with a sack … Recorded double-digit tackles six times including a career-high 16 against Samford (Nov. 16) … Tallied his first career double-digit tackle game against Mercer (Aug. 31) in the season-opener with a career-high 2.0 TFLs … Collected his first career sack as a part of an 11-tackle performance against Gardner-Webb (Oct. 5) … Also credited with two pass break-ups from his linebacker position ... Named to the 2019-20 Southern Conference Academic Honor Roll.

2018 (Sophomore): Played in 10 of the team’s 11 games as a defensive substitution and on special teams, missing the Gardner-Webb game with a hand/wrist injury … Finished the year with nine total hits including three solo stops … Recorded two tackles including a solo stop at Mercer (Oct. 20) … Posted a career-high four tackles in the triple-overtime thriller at ETSU (Oct. 27). 2017 (Freshman): Saw action in all 12 of the team's games as a defensive substitution and on special teams ... Made his collegiate debut in the road game at Hawai'i (Sept. 2) ... Finished the year with five total tackles including two solo stops ... Recorded his first collegiate tackle in the home-opener against Davidson (Sept. 9) ... Credited with a then career-high two tackles - both assists - against nationally-ranked Wofford (Oct. 7) on the road.

Prior to Western Carolina: Three-year letter winner who finished with a school-record 366 career tackles including six sacks, recording 133 stops as a senior ... Also stepped in at running back as a senior, adding over 800 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns on the ground in his final season to earn the Denver Weekly Two-Way Player of the Year honor and All-Gazette accolades ... Collected Southern District-7 all-conference plaudits and SD-7 Defensive Player of the Year honors as a junior after finishing with 123 tackles including a school-record 26 tackles for loss and a career-best five interceptions ... Earned the Newcomer Award on the North Carolina State Championship team as a sophomore ... High school head coach was Mike Byus ... Also played baseball as a prep where he hit .292 with 26 runs scored, 22 RBI, and six extra-base hits as a junior, collecting all-conference accolades.
