ETSU (1-1, 0-1 Away) at Tennessee (1-1, 1-0 Home)
Second quarter woes sink Bucs in loss to Vols - KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (Sept. 8, 2018)– Down by just 10 points with 12 minutes left in the second quarter, the ETSU football team had held its ground against Southeastern Conference foe Tennessee Saturday afternoon inside storied Neyland Stadium. Then the storm clouds came. Following a 48-minute weather delay for lightning, Tennessee – the Volunteers went on to hand the Buccaneers their first loss of the season, 59-3, before an announced crowd of 96,464 fans.
Furman (0-2, 0-2 Away) at Elon (1-1, 1-0 Home)
Elon Races Past Furman, 45-7 - ELON, N.C. -- Elon capitalized on an early turnover and used a balanced, big-play offensive attack to race past Furman, 45-7, in a clash of FCS ranked teams Saturday evening at Rhodes Stadium. The Phoenix (1-1), ranked 15th in both the FCS STATS and AFCA polls, wasted little time in grabbing the early lead when McAllister Ingram stripped Furman freshman quarterback Darren Grainger of the football, which was scooped up by Greg Liggs, who sprinted 18 yards into the end zone on the game's second play to help stake Elon to a 7-0 lead. After the Paladins' Grayson Atkins missed a 48-yard field goal, Elon's Malcolm Summers took a handoff and broke through the middle of Furman's defense on the way to a 54-yard scoring run to make it 14-0 seven minutes into the game.
Chattanooga (2-0, 1-0 Southern) at The Citadel (0-2, 0-2 Southern)
Dogs Fall in Overtime Heartbreaker - CHARLESTON, S.C. – Quarterback Jordan Black ran for two touchdowns and threw for another in the The Citadel's 29-28 overtime loss to Chattanooga Saturday evening inside Johnson Hagood Stadium.
VMI (0-2, 0-1 Southern) at Wofford (2-0, 2-0 Southern)
Wofford Football Downs VMI 59-14 - SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Wofford College football team scored the first five touchdowns of the game on the way to a 59-14 win over VMI on Saturday night at Gibbs Stadium. The Terriers had eight different players score touchdowns and set a school record with 671 yards of total offense.
Jacksonville (1-1, 0-1 Away) at Mercer (1-1, 1-0 Home)
Bears Dominate Dolphins in Lamb’s 100th Career Win - MACON, Ga. – Mercer exploded for 40-plus points in its home opener against Jacksonville for the second consecutive season, downing the Dolphins, 45-3, at Five Star Stadium on Saturday. The victory over Jacksonville (1-1) clinched Mercer head coach Bobby Lamb's 100th career win and helped the Bears improve to 1-1 overall. Lamb has earned 33 of his 100 career wins at Mercer (first 67 at Furman).
Samford (1-1, 0-1 Away) and Florida State (1-1, 1-1 Home)
Football's Upset Bid Falls Just Short At Florida State, 36-26 - TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The Florida State football team scored 15 points in the final 4:03 of the game to come from behind for a 36-26 win over Samford Saturday evening at Doak Campbell Stadium. With Samford leading, 26-21, Deondre Francois hit Tre' McKitty for a five-yard touchdown pass with 4:03 to go in the game. Francois then hit Nyqwan Murray for the two-point conversion for a 29-26 lead. On Samford's ensuing possession, Levonta Taylor picked off a Samford pass and returned it 63 yards for a touchdown with 2:23 to go to push the lead to the final score of 36-26.
