VMI at Air Force
Football Falls at Air Force, 62-0 Colorado Springs, Colo. - The Air Force Falcons saw eight different players score touchdowns on the way to a 62-0 win over the VMI Keydets in non-conference football action Saturday at Falcon Stadium in Colorado Springs, Colo. The game was the season opener for both teams.
Furman at Wofford
Football Wins 24-23 Over Furman - Spartanburg, S.C. – The Wofford College football team opened the season with a 24-23 win over Furman on Saturday night at Gibbs Stadium. The Terriers were down entering the fourth quarter, but a pair of touchdowns gave Wofford a 24-17 lead. Furman scored with 46 seconds remaining, but the two point conversion attempt was intercepted and Wofford held on for the victory.
Newberry at The Citadel
Bulldogs Handle Newberry in Opener, 21-14 Charleston, S.C. – The Citadel's Cam Jackson's 74-yard touchdown run in the third quarter broke open a one-score game and lifted the Bulldogs to a 31-14 win over Newberry on Saturday night in the season opener. The Citadel (1-0) controlled the first half, but led only 14-7 at the break. Newberry threatened to tie the game in the third before Jackson took a pitch from quarterback Dominique Allen and raced up the left sideline to put the game out of reach behind a Bulldog defense that allowed only 42 yards in the opening half. The Bulldogs rushed for 374 yards and had 454 yards of offense in the win. Newberry had only 276 yards of total offense and was under 250 until the final drive.
Limestone at ETSU
Bucs open Greene Stadium in style with 31-10 victory - Johnson City, Tenn. A sold out crowd was treated to a triumphant return to campus in the inaugural game at William B. Greene, Jr. Stadium on Saturday night, as the ETSU football team opened its 2017 season with a historic 31-10 win over Limestone College. With 9,530 fans looking on, the Buccaneers played their first game on the ETSU campus since Nov. 22, 2003 and their first game outdoors on campus since Nov. 25, 1972. The moment was not lost on junior quarterback Austin Herink (Cleveland), who played an inspired game by completing his first 15 passes of the night and throwing for 239 yards in all, including three touchdowns.
Western Carolina at Hawaii
Miscues Thawart Football's Upset BidAT Hawaii, 41-18 - Honolulu, HI - Redshirt sophomore quarterback Tyrie Adams accounted for 377 yards of total offense including rushing for a career-best 107 yards, but miscues including four failed field goal attempts and three turnovers hurt Western Carolina's upset bid in a 41-18 loss to the Hawai'I Rainbow Warriors at Aloha Stadium. WCU had three field goals blocked -- the third returned 89 yards for a Hawai'i touchdown -- and missed another kick wide in the season-opening road loss. The Catamounts only scored on three of its six red zone visits with two touchdowns and a field goal.
