The Road to Asheville (Feb. 4, 2016)

On Thursday, only four games are scheduled in conference play. These games mark the start of the second half of the conference season, as each of the four games are the second in their respective series.




ETSU (13-9, 3-8 away)   at   VMI (6-14, 5-3  home)  7 pm   ESPN3
The Bucs travel to Cameron Hall in Lexington to meet the VMI Keydets for their second meeting for the season. ETSU won the first meeting in Johnson City by a final score of 88-51.  The fourth place Bucs are 6-3 in conference play and 3-8 on the road, while VMI is 5-3 in Cameron Hall, but 1-8 in conference games. The Bucs enter the game on a two game skid, losing both on the road, while the Keydets are on a 3 game losing streak entering the game.  We think the Bucs will win by 8 points.

Western Carolina (8-14, 0-12 away)   at    UNCG (8-14, 6-3 home)     7 pm   ESPN3
The Catamounts travel to the Greensboro Coliseum to meet the UNCG Spartans for this season's second meeting of the two teams. The Cats win the first meeting in Cullowhee on January 11, by a final score of  83-77 in overtime. Western comes into the game having not won a road game this season ((0-12) and on a two game road losing streak, while the Spartans are coming off a road loss to Mercer, but are 6-3 in games played in the Coliseum this season. Western is currently in seventh place with a 3-6 record, and the Spartans are in sixth place with a 4-5 record. We think the Cats road problems continue, and the Spartans win by 9 points at home.

Wofford (10-12, 3-10 away)   at   Chattanooga (19-3, 9-0 home)   7:30 pm   SDN
The Terriers travel to McKenzie on Thursday to meet the Mocs for their second game of the season, having dropped game one in Spartanburg 68-77.  The Mocs enter the game not only the in first place, they are the only SoCon team undefeated at home this season, while the fifth place Terriers are only 3-10 on the road this season, but are coming off two home wins as they enter this game.  The Mocs come into the game on a six game win streak, and should continue their winning ways with a 15 point win over the Terriers.

Furman (13-10, 4-9 away)  at  Samford (11-12, 5-4 home)   8 pm   ESPN3
The Paladins travel to Hanna Center in Birmingham to meet the Bulldogs for their second game of the season.  The third place Paladins won the first meeting in Greenville, by a final score of 77-57.  Samford comes into the game on a four game losing streak, and a 2-8 conference record, while the Paladins are 7-3 in conference games and are on a four game winning streak. We're picking the Paladins to win by 5 points.
