26 Days 'till Kickoff - #26 Trey Morgan


It's now 26 days until kickoff of Catamount football against the Mars Hill University Lions in E.J.Whitmire Stadium on September 5th in Cullowhee.

To help pass those long summer days until football season officially starts, and to hopefully get the Catamount faithful more excited about the upcoming season, we'll continue the 100 day football countdown each day until kickoff day arrives.

Utilizing the 2015 Preseason Football Roster, #26 is assigned to Trey Morgan

2014 (Sophomore): For a second-straight season, started all 12 games in the defensive secondary at cornerback ... Recorded 61 tackles including 45 solo stops, ranking sixth on the WCU squad ... Led the Southern Conference with six interceptions and ranked second in the SoCon with 14 passes defended ... Named first team All-Southern Conference by the media and was a second team All-SoCon selection by the league's head coaches ... Collected SoCon Defensive Player of the Week accolades after recording nine tackles including one for loss, forcing two fumbles and intercepting a pass against The Citadel (Oct. 25) ... Had an outstanding month of October that included a total of 25 tackles with 19 solo stops, three pass break-ups, three interceptions and two forced fumbles in earning Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Month for October ... Was just the fifth Catamount to earn a monthly honor from the SoCon dating back to 2003 and the first WCU player recognized since 2010 ... Recorded a career-high 10 tackles twice at Samford (Nov. 8) and at Alabama (Nov. 22) ... Playing for the Gold squad, credited with one tackle in WCU's annual Spring Game.

2013 (Freshman): Started all 12 seasonal games at cornerback ... Finished his rookie campaign with 45 total tackles including 29 solo stops with one tackle for loss ... Tallied at least one tackle in all 12 seasonal games ... Named to the Southern Conference All-Freshman team ... Was also selected to the third annual College Sports Journal 2013 Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) All-Freshman team ... Ranked eighth on the squad overall in terms of total tackles, and was second among his classmates ... Recorded four total pass break-ups with one interception against ACC-foe, Virginia Tech - made an athletic, leaping grab while fending off the Hokies' receiver in thwarting a potential scoring play at the goal line ...Was also credited with forcing a fumble in the third quarter against The Citadel ... Recorded six tackles in WCU's annual Spring Game.

Prior to Western Carolina: Played wide receiver and safety for head coach Dan Pippin at North Augusta High, leading the Yellow Jackets to the Division II Class AAAA state quarterfinals ... Helped North Augusta win 44 games over the past four seasons ... Tabbed the Augusta Chronicle's South Carolina Football Player of the Year, as well as the 2012 Aiken Standard Defensive Player of the Year ... As a senior, recorded 119 tackles and three interceptions on defense ... Rushed for 226 yards and 10 touchdowns on just 38 carries, adding 441 receiving yards and five TDs, earning his team's MVP award ... Scored a touchdown every 4.7 times he touched the ball on offense ... Selected to play in the North-South All-Star game.
