VMI series

Dates: Thursday, May 14th & Friday, May 15th
Times: 5:00 pm; DH game #1 - 2:00 pm;
Location: Hennon Stadium, Cullowhee
Video: SoCon Digital Network

Thursday's game against the Keydets will mark the first meeting on the diamond with the Catamounts since VMI's return to the SoCon, but it will be the 71st meeting all-time between Western and VMI, with Western having won 55 of the previous 70 contests.

This season, VMI  is 18-27 overall and 10-11 in the SoCon (tied with WCU). The Keydets are 12-10 in road games and only 6-17 at home (too bad this series is not at Lexington.

The Keydets are hitting .278 as a team and are led offensively by Jordan Tarsovich who is batting .333.  Opponents are hitting 2.98 against the Keydets pitching staff that owns a 6.02 earned run average.

To avoid Tuesday's single-elimination #8 vs. #9 play-in game in Charleston against ETSU, Western needs any combination of one victory over the Keydets or one loss by The Citadel, to lock a spot into Wednesday's first full day of conference tournament play,.  Mathematically, the Cats can still finish as high as second place in the regular season standings with a series sweep over VMI. if Mercer also sweeps Samford in their series.
.
Projected Pitching Match-Ups:
Thursday: WCU - LHP Bryan Sammons (4-4, 5.12) vs. VMI - RHP Andrew Woods (6-1, 4.82) Friday - Game 1: WCU - RHP B.J. Nobles (4-3, 4.72) vs. VMI - LHP Austin Heenan (1-6, 6.67) Friday - Game 2: WCU - RHP Korey Anderson (3-4, 7.43) vs. VMI - LHP Brandon Barbery (5-2, 4.94)
