Welcome to the Purple & Gold Preseason 2015 SoCon Football Power Rankings.
Just to refresh you memory, the final 2014 power rankings ended with Chattanooga in the #1 position, followed by Samford at #2, and Western Carolina holding down the #3 position.
The Cats were followed by The Citadel in #4 and Wofford as #5. In the lower half of the rankings, Furman came in at #6, Mercer at #7 and VMI was #8.
In 2015, Chattanooga returns two-time SoCon Offensive Player of the Year, quarterback Jacob Huesman, as well as 16 starters from 2014: six on offense, six on defense and both specialists. Western Carolina returns nine starters on defense and all 11 starters on offense, including 10 All-SoCon performers from 2014. Samford returns seven starters on offense and seven starters on defense for new head coach Chris Hatcher. Wofford returns 21 starters from 2014: ten on offense and nine on defense. Furman returns 18 starters from last season's injury riddled team, and 36 players that have starting experience. The Citadel returns 15 starters from last season. Mercer returns all 22 starters from 2014, while the VMI Keydets will be led by SoCon Freshman of the Year QB Al Cobb. who led the SoCon in passing with 2,791 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2014.
