SoCon Football Picks - Week #11

It's week eleven in the football season and the smoke has cleared somewhat. The SoCon.now has a new Big Three, or maybe just a Big One.

Chattanooga, Western Carolina and Wofford are currently holding down the Big Three positions, with Samford nipping at their tails. Clearly the conference has divided itself into an upper and lower half, with The Citadel, Furman, VMI and Mercer having less conference wins between them, than the Mocs have to date.

Each of the bottom 4 only have one conference win apiece, but that will change for one of them on Saturday - with the two teams currently tied for fifth place, Furman & The Citadel playing each other. The other two teams of the bottom four have a bye week (VMI & Mercer), while the top four teams play each other.

The premier game this week, has to be the Wofford/Chattanooga game. A Terrier victory on Saturday, would result in a three way tie for first place in the SoCon (Chattanooga, Western Carolina, and Wofford), while a Mocs victory would ensure Chattanooga of the conference auto bid to the playoffs, as well as ensure the Mocs of a share of the conference title. There is also a lot riding on the outcome of the Western Carolina/Samford game. For the Cats to remain in a position for a share of the SoCon title, the Cats must beat Samford, and hope for help from Wofford. While the Samford Bulldogs can't figure into the conference crown race, they can play the roll of spoiler to the Cats.

With two teams sporting a bye this Saturday, that leaves only three conference games this Saturday:
