It's 50-50 if Mitchell can play Saturday

An MRI completed on Monday on Catamount starting quarterback Troy Mitchell's right shoulder indicates no ligament or muscle damage, reports head football coach Mark Speir .

“It’s not a tear or an AC sprain, and that’s great news,” Speir said. “And the really good news is we will get him back, we just don’t know if it’s going to be this week."

“It’s like a bone spur that’s just loose and floating around his shoulder, so there’s a lot of rehab with an elastic band and then it’s just how much pain tolerance Troy has,” added Speir.  "It’s 50-50 whether he will play against Wofford

If Mitchell does not play this week, Speir's options are senior Garrett Brown, and freshmen Jackson McDonald and Wes Holcombe. “I couldn’t tell you what we are going to do,” said Speir, “All three of them will get a ton of reps this week in practice,” said Speir. “If Troy can’t play, we may use two of them, or we may use all three.

Garrett Brown has been the back up this season since the departure of Eddie Sullivan during the summer, and is the most experienced of the three, but has had very, very, limited playing time at Western as a quarterback.
