Sullivan Dismissed from Football Team

Redshirt senior quarterback Eddie Sullivan was dismissed from the Western Carolina football team Thursday by head football coach Mark Speir.  In a release by the university, the stated reason was for a "violation of team policies and standards".

"I have dismissed Eddie Sullivan for conduct detrimental to our program," said Speir in a statement released on the athletic web site. "The timing of this dismissal is very unfortunate for Eddie Sullivan and our football team. But, in the process of creating a winning culture, we are demanding all of our student-athletes meet the high expectations and standards we have for them on and off of the field."

Since his arrival in Cullowhee as a transfer student from Marshall University in 2011, Eddie has shared the starting quarterback position with Troy Mitchell. In 2013, Eddie played in 11 of the Catamount's 12 games with three starts at quarterback. He ranked third on the team in rushing with 185 yards on 49 carries, scoring a rushing TD in the season finale at Appalachian State. He completed 80-of-165 pass attempts (48.5%) for 1,041 yards with five passing TDs, all coming in the final four games of the regular season. Sullivan ranked seventh in the Southern Conference in both passing with a 101.8 yards per game average and in passer efficiency at 101.8. He ranked 10th in the SoCon in total offense, averaging 111.5 yards per game.
