Cullowhee, N.C. - The Cats scored a school record 45 points in the first half of play Saturday en route to a 52-31 home victory over the visiting Mars Hill Lions. Shaun Warren rushed for 203 yards and four touchdowns, as Brandon Pechloff threw for two touchdowns and 285 yards passing. Overall, the Catamounts ended the evening with 653 yards total offense.
"It's a victory, and we need to be happy about that," said WCU Head Coach Dennis Wagner. "We did some good things on offense in the first half. I'm frustrated with the defense. We missed some tackles and had too many penalties. But it's a win, and we needed a win. We're a better football team, but there are still a lot of things we have to tighten up."
The Cats are now 1-1 in this young season, and have a bye week prior to visiting Georgia Southern on September 24th 2011.
