WCU holds off Charleston to claim title share

CULLOWHEE — There was no collapse this time.

Two nights after blowing a 21-point, second-half lead to The Citadel, Western Carolina gutted out a 70-62 victory over College of Charleston to claim a share of the Southern Conference’s North Division title.

Senior Richie Gordon scored 16 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, and teammate Mike Williams had 18 points for the Catamounts (17-14, 12-6).

It’s the second time in three years that WCU has shared the division championship with Chattanooga, which won in overtime today at Samford.
