This week's Purple & Gold football picks (9-8-17)




It's week #2 in the SoCon, and time to pick Saturday's SoCon games.

With one game played Thursday night, we have seven games being played Saturday.







The Citadel (1-0) at Presbyterian (0-1)   12:00 noon - watch on the Big South Network 
The Citadel vs. Presbyterian game has been relocated from Charleston to Clinton, SC due to the impending threat of Hurricane Irma. While the location may have changed, the outcome will not. The Bulldogs run up a 35-20 score on the Blue Hose.

Elon (0-1) at Furman (0-1)  1:00 pm EDT - watch on ESPN3
Former SoCon foe Elon pays a visit to Traveler's Rest to meet the Paladins. Furman rolls to a 35-10 win over the Phoneix, thus proving a move to the CAA does not improve your football program.

Catawba (1-0) at VMI  (0-1)   1:30 pm EDT - watch on ESPN3
The Keydets open their home schedule with one of the two non-D-1 teams on this week's SoCon schedule. The Division II Catawba Indians travels to Lexington hoping for an upset, but returning to NC disappointed with the 38-3 loss at the hands of the Keydets.]

Wofford (1-0) at Mercer (1-0)  4:00 pm EDT - watch on ESPN3
In the premiere game on this week's conference schedule, two of the early unbeaten teams meet in this conference showdown. The preseason number one ranked Terriers travel south to Macon, Ga to to take on the Mercer Bears. While the Bears have been impressive at home, they drop a close one to the short haired dogs, 24-21.

ETSU (1-0) at James Madison (1-0)  6:00 pm EDT - watch on Comcast SportsNet Plus
The Bucs travel to Harrisonburg, VA to meet nationally number 1 ranked James Madison. The Dukes roll to a 49-7 final score over ETSU.

Davidson (1-0) at Western Carolina (0-1)  6:00 pm EDT - watch on ESPN3
The Wildcats travel up the mountain to Cullowhee for the first meeting since 1985 with the Catamounts in football. The Catamounts put together a complete game, finishing with a 45-14 win over the Wildcats

Chattanooga (0-1) at LSU (1-0)  7:30 pm - watch on SECN
The Mocs stay on the road as they travel to Baton Rouge to meet the 12th ranked LSU Tigers. LSU is coming off a shutout game against BYU, looking to make the Mocs their second shutout victim.  The Tigers get it, with a 35-0 win over the Mocs
