Saturday's SoCon Football Round-up (9-24-16)





Week number four is now in the books. Only four games were scheduled, two conference and two non-conference.




East Tennessee State at Wofford
The Wofford College football team opened Southern Conference play with a 31-0 win over East Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon at Gibbs Stadium. The Terriers scored touchdowns on their first two drives of the game and the defense held the Bucs to only 76 yards of total offense and recorded nine tackles for loss in the contest for the win.  -  Football Shuts Out ETSU 31-0 



Samford at Chattanooga
The 3rd-ranked Chattanooga Mocs utilized a balanced attack in a 41-21 win over Southern Conference rival Samford Saturday afternoon. Balanced is the operative term as both sides of the ball contributed to the victory. The offense recorded 521 yards, with 285 on the ground and 236 in the air. Derrick Craine was the big story, rushing for a career-high 222 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns. It's the third-highest total in school history, with 194 coming in the second half.  -  No. 3 Chattanooga Rolls to 41-21 Win over Samford in SoCon Showdown


VMI at Bucknell
Daz Palmer ran for a 12-yard touchdown in the third overtime, and quarterback Al Cobb set VMI records for career passing yards and completions as the Keydets rallied for a 23-17 victory over Bucknell Saturday afternoon in Lewisburg, Pa. With the win, the Keydets won back-to-back games for the first time since 2005 and consecutive road contests for the first time since the 1981 and 1982 seasons to improve to 2-1 this year.  -   Keydets Prevail in Triple Overtime Thriller, 23-17


Furman at Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina special teams scored two touchdowns and set up a third tally in the first half to help the FBS transition Chanticleers grab a 27-0 lead en route to a 41-21 victory over Furman in football action Saturday evening at Brooks Stadium. The win was the sixth straight for Coastal Carolina (3-1) over Furman (0-4) in the final meeting between the two programs for the foreseeable future with the Chanticleers set to begin play in the Sun Belt Conference next year.  -  Coastal Carolina Races Past Furman, 41-21
