Monday's SoCon Basketball results

It was a tough nigh for the SoCon as three teams went on the road, and all three came away with a loss in out of conference play. While VMI and Chattanooga had competitive games, Western Carolina dropped a 23 point loss to South Carolina.




Western Carolina at South Carolina
Mindaugas Kacinas scored 20 points and had 11 rebounds and Michael Carrera put up 16 points to lead South Carolina to a 76-53 victory over Western Carolina. Carrera was instrumental in two big runs that gave the Gamecocks control of the game as SC went on a 19-0 first half run that gave South Carolina the lead for good. Western Carolina came out hitting from long-range, making four three-pointers in the opening nine minutes, but went cold and had trouble protecting the ball the remainder of the game.


VMI at Campbell
Campbell's Chris Clemons hit a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left in the game to win, 66-65 over VMI Monday night. The Keydets' QJ Peterson's hit a jumper with 5:11 left in the game to give VMI a 62-54 lead, but the Camels rallied. Curtis Phillips hit a pair of free throws, Shane Whitfield hit a jumper and a tip-in and Clemons hit a 3-pointer for a 63-62 lead. Rhett Harrelson scored 14 points and Mike Brown added 10 for Western Carolina.


Chattanooga at Louisiana Monroe
Majok Deng scored 22 points to lead Louisiana-Monroe over Chattanooga 64-54 in Monroe, LA on Monday night.the game at 39 with 8:22 left. The Wareagles win on a 16-8 run that game ULM a 55-47 lead with 2:29 left. Casey Jones led Chattanooga with 14 points and pulled down nine rebounds. Chuck Ester and Tre' McLean chipped in nine apiece for the Mocs.
