This week's Purple & Gold football picks (10-10-15)

It's week #6 in the SoCon, and it's time to make this week's SoCon football picks.

This week, we only have conference games on the schedule (finally). I'm sure most of you have been tired of the drip, drip, drip of one conference game per week. All games this week will be on ESPN3, except the Mercer at Western game, which is being carried by the American Sports Network (ASN).

So let's get to picking winners.....

October 10, 2015

Furman (3-2, 1-0 Southern) at Chattanooga (3-1, 1-0 Southern) 1:00 pm ET
Two of the unbeaten in conference teams go at it, but the build up is not quite what it was for the Samford/Chattanooga game earlier in the season. The #6 team in the nation holds on, and beats back the challenge fairly easily, winning 35-17.

Samford (2-2, 0-1 Southern) at VMI (1-4, 0-1 Southern) 1:30 pm ET
The Bulldogs travel to Lexington for the first time since the Keydets returned to the conference, coming off two straight losses.  Both teams are 0-1 in conference play, but the Bulldogs hit the win column,  38-17/

Wofford (3-2, 1-0 Southern) at The Citadel (2-2, 1-0 Southern) 2:00 pm ET
What happens with two triple option teams meet?  We'll find out Saturday, as the Terriers meet the Bulldogs in Charleston. In this game, home field advantage makes the difference. The Bulldogs hold off the short hair dogs 28-24.

Mercer (2-2, 0-1 Southern) at Western Carolina (2-2, 0-1 Southern) 3:30 pm ET
The Bears travel from middle Georgia, and up the mountains to visit Cullowhee, USA for the very first time. It will be a memorable trip for the Bears, as they drop their second stright game to the Catamounts, and third straight of the season. Cats win 42-24.
