Congratulations to J.T. Poston

Western's own J. T. Poston won a playoff round in the Chapel Hill Regional to qualify for the NCAA golf tournament. Poston defeated Dawson Armstrong of Lipscomb University in the two-hole playoff.

Poston started the third and final day of play at the regional in the lead. He had shot par (68s) in the first two rounds, however, on Saturday, he shot 73 to finish with a 54-hole total of 209, 7 under par, and was tied with Armstrong. Both had finish two shots behind medalist Maverick McNealy (who shot 70 and finished at 207).

Poston and Armstrong were both playing as individuals, playing for that one spot set aside for the individual player with the best score, a player not affiliated in the team competition. “It was a tough day out there,” said WCU coach Bryant Odom. “J.T. had to rally to get in the playoff but he made a long putt to get in. It was a thrill.”

“I forced it a little bit,” Poston said, “knowing that I had to finish in the top-3 or top-5 to have a chance. This year I tried to stay patient and treat it like any other tournament.”

Poston was playing in the regionals for the third time, but this will be his first time moving on to the national tournament, to be held at The Concessions Golf Club in Bradenton, Florida.
