Hoyle & Sigmon All-District III selections

Western Carolina junior first baseman Jacob Hoyle and softball sophomore first baseman and pitcher Taylor Sigmon was named to the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District III First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).  As a first team selections, both now advances to the Capital One All-Academic Team ballot.

Hoyle boasts a cumulative grade point average of 3.55 while majoring in Management. He was named to the 2013 Southern Conference Spring Academic All-Conference team and to the 2012-13 SoCon Honor Roll in his first year eligible as a sophomore last spring.

Sigmon has a 3.97 GPA in Communication Science Disorders. She was named to the 2012-13 Southern Conference Honor Roll and named the North Carolina Education Lottery Student-Athlete of the Week for April 16, 2014.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form. In baseball, pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched. Athletes who have not participated in at least 50 percent of their team's contests are not eligible.
