Cats spoil Appy's upset run

Western Carolina held on to spoil Appalachian State's final attempt to win in the Ramsey Center as a member of the Southern Conference with a 84-75 overtime win.   ASU is now 1-11 in road games this season.

Trey Sumler scored a game high of 25 points and 4 assists, as five Cats scored in double figures. Sumler moved into a tie for fourth place on the WCU all-time scoring list with 1,836 career points. He is three points away from passing former Catamount and current NBA star, Kevin Martin.

Brandon Boggs put up 15 points off the bench, followed by James Sinclair with 11 points, Tawaski King and Tom Tankelewicz both added 10 apiece for the Cats.

Fouls were the name of the game in this contest, as ASU committed 31 personal fouls, while the Catamounts were whistled 29 times, sending the Mountaineers to the free throw line for 39 attempts, where they converted 27 of those attempts.  The Cats attempted 42 shots at the charity stripe, making 31 points or 73.8%.

A major letdown for the Cats came in turnovers, as Western turned the ball over an uncharacteristic 15 times in a game that game featured 17 ties and 14 different lead changes.
