Stony Brook and Albany join CAA in Football

The Colonial Athletic Association adds Stony Brook and Albany to its football only membership beginning in 2013, the league announced Tuesday.

Stony Brook will leave the Big South Conference after three consecutive league championships and its first Football Championship Subdivision playoff appearance in 2011. Albany won the Northeast Conference title in 2011 and lost to Stony Brook in the first round of the playoffs.

"This is certainly a momentous day,” CAA Commissioner Tom Yeager said in a statement. “The addition of Albany and Stony Brook bring playoff-tested programs from the Northeast into an already nationally prominent league.”

It's unknown at this time if CAA Football will add any southern teams. It has been speculated that CCU, Elon, & Furman have been courted by the CAA,
